The company attorney said officials would appeal the verdict, in part due to testimony from longtime chief financial officer Allen H. Weisselberg, who pleaded guilty to failing to pay taxes on the company's profits.

Trump said he was “disappointed” with the verdict and pointed the finger at Mr. Weisselberg, suggesting he was a lone wolf. But in a morning post on his social media site Truth Social, Mr Trump criticized the prosecutor, accusing him of staging a "witch hunt for D against 'Trump' for perks, something unprecedented in our country's history."

In his statement following the end of the trial, he wrote: "New York City is a difficult place to be 'Trump' as people are fleeing our once great city!

The company faces a seven-figure fine and the verdict could hamper its future efforts. While a company's conviction isn't a person's conviction (Trump himself hasn't been charged in connection with the case), the crime taint is something the former developer and developer has tried to avoid for decades.
