Trump Organization Tax Fraud: The Dawn of Trump Empire?

Tuesday's conviction of the Trump Organization for financial inadequacy, as well as the loss of former President Donald J. Trump's nominee in the Georgia Senate runoff, marked one of the worst days for Trump since announcing his presidential candidacy about three weeks ago.

In New York, the jury hearing the case of Manhattan District Attorney Alvin L. Bragg deliberated for two days before returning guilty  on all 17 counts related to a tax fraud scheme, a sweeping condemnation of the company with Mr. Trump's name

The company attorney said officials would appeal the verdict,  in part due to testimony from  longtime chief financial officer Allen H. Weisselberg, who pleaded guilty to failing to pay taxes on the company's profits.

Trump said he was “disappointed” with the verdict and pointed the finger at Mr. Weisselberg, suggesting he was a lone wolf. But in a morning post on his social media site Truth Social, Mr Trump criticized the prosecutor, accusing him of staging a "witch hunt for D against 'Trump' for perks, something unprecedented in  our country's history."

In his statement following the end of the trial, he wrote: "New York City is a difficult place to be 'Trump' as  people are fleeing our once great city!

The company faces a seven-figure fine and the verdict could hamper its future efforts. While a company's conviction isn't a person's conviction (Trump himself hasn't been charged in connection with the case), the crime taint  is something  the former  developer and developer has tried to avoid for decades.

Since the late 1970s, when the  Brooklyn US Attorney was investigating a possible fraud case against Mr. Trump, he has managed to avoid indictment.

While Mr Bragg decided earlier this year not to press charges against Mr Trump, which is what prosecutors investigating the company had expected, the criminal convictions represent a kind of defeat Mr Trump has never faced on Tuesday night , as the shock of the trial hit, the focus shifted to Georgia.
