According to Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp there is no such thing as a seven-year management cycle when he asked whether any such strategy is responsible for Liverpool’s current slump.

Seven years have already elapsed since the German was appointed successor to Brendan Rodgers.

In both Klopp’s previous two jobs at Mainz and Borussia Dortmund, he did not make it into the eighth season.

“The situation was really different. A seven-year spell was not planned or because I lost energy,” said Klopp.

“I was a manager at Mainz and, after three years, we got promoted to the Bundesliga then three years later we got relegated.”

“We tried one more year and the club needed a change, players left us for the Bundesliga so they needed a fresh start.”

He went on to add about Dortmund: “I went directly to Dortmund and it was all fine. [It was] seven years and it was just a situation that players constantly got bought by other clubs.”

“It was a really hard job to do, constantly making two steps back.”

During his final year with the die Schwarzgelben, around Christmas, the club feared being relegated, but a strong recovery was made possible, finally making them reach the seventh spot.

With four draws and one loss in seven games, Liverpool’s start to the current season appears to be in a rut, and this has drawn similarities on social media with the manager’s history with the seven-year period.

Klopp, however, disagrees. He said: “I can understand that I left after seven years and now we are in a difficult situation, but, if you think twice about it, you realise the situation is completely different.”

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp’s record

Though, one can hardly argue Klopp’s incredible achievement with the reds.

His supervision has won The Reds six major trophies since the day he took charge including coveted titles such as The Champions League, Premier League, UEFA Super Cup, FIFA Club World Cup and FA Cup.

Klopp has overseen 392 of those games and has already won more (244) than any Reds manager to reach 400 games in charge and is ahead of any other manager in club history to reach 300, 400, and 500 league points.

His goals per game stats (currently 2.08) is also better than any other manager over the past 126 years in Liverpool.

Another coaching record he holds is the number of days without defeat in the league at Anfield, which stands at 1,369 days – from April 2017 to January 2021.
