In what was a do-or-die match for South Korea, they faced Portugal at the Education City Stadium in Al Rayyan, Qatar.

It took just 90 minutes for South Korea to become the runners up from the bottom position of Group H courtesy to the extra time heroics of Hee-Chan Hwang.

Portugal did not take long to open their account when Ricardo Horta kicked its first goal from a Diogo Dalot cross in the fifth minute.

The Taeguk Warriors did not keep long either, as Young-Gwon Kim’s superb footwork levelled the scoresheet in the 27th minute.

When the match hit its final minutes, South Korea needed just a win to advance to the next stage as Uruguay was winning against Ghana with a narrow margin.

The first minute of the extra time saw the heroics from Hee-Chan Hwang. Heung-Min Son passed one to Hwang near the edge of the Portugal box which the latter sent flying to the far corner.

South Korea beat Portugal 2-1 and the scenes are ecstatic seeing players celebrating their victory.

They head to their third time knock-out stage in football world cup ousting Uruguay in the process and also making it Luis Suarez’s last world cup.
